Celebrate Harvest 2025 at North Farm!

| Come together for a Harvest Kick Off Michigan Wine Collaborative Membership Drive event at North Farm on Suttons Bay Friday September 12th! Share space, harvest predictions, ideas for MWC projects, learn about MWC leadership opportunities, explore North Farm, and spend some time kicking it with your industry friends before we disappear into the vineyards and cellars.
MWC members are warmly encouraged to attend and also invite potential members and/or sponsors! This is a great opportunity to connect with the membership and for those who are not yet MWC members to learn about the organization, network, share, and celebrate the upcoming vintage.
Member renewals occur September 15th so this is a perfect time to get excited for another year of MWC membership, projects, and events OR to join the organization and get the absolute most of out of MWC membership!!
We are looking forward to hosting gatherings more often around the state to allow our members to share space and ideas. Please reach out to EMILY if you are interested in hosting a MWC member gathering.

MWC member renewals are upon us! Auto renewals and invoices go out September 15th. In preparation for that we are asking current members to participate in our 2025 Member Survey. This survey requests testimonials for promotional content for our upcoming Membership Drive, input for 2026 priorities and initiatives, and confirming current member status. Exhibit at the 2026 Grand Rapids International Wine, Beer, & Food Festival

| Now in its 18th year, this Festival has established itself as Michigan’s annual tasting event, measured by more than 1,200 wines, beers, ciders and spirits from around the world, along with creations from the area’s finest restaurants and specialty foodpreneurs.
MWC is collaborating with ShowSpan to increase the presence of Michigan wine at this iconic event. ShowSpan is offering exclusive offers to MWC members interested in exhibiting at the festival. Those exclusive offerings have been distributed to the MWC membership via Wild Apricot. Please REACH OUT TO US for details.
For any participating winery to be included in the PRINTED Festival Program, a signed application and deposit is required by Monday, September 15
- 10,000 copies of the program delivered with the November GR Magazine late October
- 15,000 copies included in the Revue Magazine, hits locations late October
- Copies given to attendees of the Festival at the entrance
- Additional Advertising is available in the printed program
MWC will be present at the festival hosting the Taste Michigan Governor’s Cup Showcase booth where we will be pouring winning wines from the competition. Additionally, we will also be hosting the official Taste Michigan Governor’s Cup Trophy Ceremony where the Governor’s Cup trophy will be transferred from Verterra to Cherry Creek Cellars. We are encouraging all members who are available to attend the ceremony and exhibit at the festival. Please consider sharing a booth to maximize value!

MWC Teams Up with Mott Community College for Their Distinguished Chef Dinner and a Breast Cancer Wine Tasting Event

MWC is teaming up with the Mott Community College Culinary Arts Institute (MCC) for its Grape Pink Out Escape Wine Tasting fundraiser, to benefit the American Cancer Society on October 3rd, and their Distinguished Chef Series on October 24th, featuring award-winning Chef Jimmy Lee Hill. The Grape Pink Out Escape Wine Tasting will be a wine tasting featuring small bites with all proceeds benefitting the American Cancer Society while the Distinguished Chef Series dinner will feature a four-course meal prepared by Chef Jimmy Lee Hill.
Attendance is expected to be between 70-100 guests per event. This will be a great opportunity to represent your winery as you raise brand awareness among the Southeast portion of the state.
MWC has teamed up with MCC to work together to source MWC winery members as partners and select wines to feature at these events. As we work together to coordinate our efforts we are also facilitating logistics and benefits for wineries participating. In addition to general marketing benefits for featuring your wine at the event we are exploring on site bottle sales and working with the MCC Culinary Arts Institute to secure placements on their wine list. Those who would be interested in providing wines for these two events or those with questions should reach out to Emily HERE!

86 Harassment Invites MI Wine to Participate in Progamming

| 86 Harassment is a Women of the Vine & Spirits key initiative, dedicated to promoting a safer and more respectful workplace environment in the beverage alcohol and hospitality industries. Through training, education and confidential support, our goal is to create a community where everyone feels safe and valued in their workplace. 86 Harassment has reached out to engage the Michigan wine industry to be a part of this important initiative. Below are some upcoming training opportunities and resources to utilize for yourself and your staff. |

Laurentide Teams Up with University of Michigan

Southern Smoke Foundation (SSF) supports food and beverage (F+B) industry workers in crisis nationwide through emergency relief grants and access to mental health services. They offer services through two core programs:
- Emergency Relief Fund (ERF): Grants for F+B workers experiencing crisis (natural disasters, medical emergencies, etc.).
- Behind You: Launched in 2020, the Behind You program provides no-cost mental health counseling to F+B workers in more than states.
Southern Smoke is excited to share that they have officially launched our ‘Behind You’ mental health program in Michigan. This program is in partnership with Michigan School of Psychology, providing access to up to 20 no-cost counseling sessions for eligible F+B workers in Michigan.

As this is the pilot year of the program please understand that availability will be limited. If a waitlist becomes necessary, applicants will be kept updated on the timeline and share vetted outside resources to help connect with other service options.
Employers are not required to contribute to fundraising efforts in order for employees to participate in the program, and Southern Smoke services are confidential. Employees who meet the eligibility requirements below can apply today!
More about the Behind You program:

To qualify for this program, individuals must work in the food and beverage industry for at least 30 hours weekly (60 hours bi-weekly) for at least six months. Multiple roles within the industry are acceptable, provided they collectively meet the hourly requirement.

Services are offered in-person and via telehealth.

Provides access to quality, evidence-based counseling in partnership with Michigan School of Psychology.

Every Behind You client will have the support of the training clinician, the licensed clinical supervisor, and the university clinical director.

Even if you have never been in counseling or if you have not been able to budget for counseling at this time, Southern Smoke is here for you.

Process is confidential, employment verified by paystubs and employer will not be notified.

WINERY: Left Foot Charley
Harvest Cellar Hand
Join Caravin Wine Company, the winemaking arm of Left Foot Charley and its custom clients, for harvest season! Seasonal cellar hands will assist with grape processing, fermentation management, and general cellar operations during the busiest time of the year.This job is a temporary position from mid-September through November. Hours could range from part-time to overtime, depending on candidate availability.
Cellar Technician
Caravin Wine Company, the winemaking arm of Left Foot Charley and its custom clients, is seeking a motivated individual to join our production team in an entry-level cellar role. This position focuses on cleaning/sanitation, equipment upkeep, and assisting with cellar operations. Responsibilities may expand to broader production work depending on skills and experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain a clean and organized cellar environment
- Perform sanitation of tanks, barrels, and equipment
- Assist with racking, transfers, bottling, and barrel handling as needed
- Operate and maintain equipment safely (training provided)
- Support other winery tasks as directed by the winemaking team
Qualifications:
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
- Willingness to work overtime during October–November
- Mechanical aptitude and/or forklift experience a plus but not required
- Winery, brewery, or food/beverage production experience preferred but not required
