2021 Judgement of Michigan Evaluation and Media Event
MWC and Lake MI College will be hosting a wine evaluation on August 3rd featuring national wine writers and local wine buyers offering opportunities on their wine lists for MI wine. This evaluation, the Judgement of Michigan, will include interactive components for consumers of Michigan wine to join in as well as benefits tailored for large wineries looking to increase their product placements and for small wineries looking to increase tasting room traffic, and everyone in between.
Our vision for the Judgement of Michigan is to bring relevant, experienced, and diverse wine professionals and palates to taste, evaluate, and promote the wines of the Michigan wine industry. We have selected active wine professionals from media, retail, restaurant, wholesalers, and more to descend upon the Lake MI Shore AVA and share the MI wine message: Michigan wine is for everyone.
Now we just need Michigan wineries to submit their best wines for evaluation by these influential wine professionals. We invite you to send your best and brightest to stand up together and show the world that Michigan wine is for everyone…we have something for any wine lover.
The Winery Packets are now available and we are encouraging wineries to ship their wine entries ASAP before the heat really hits. ALL wine entries MUST arrive to Lake Michigan College by July 15th.

Summer 2021 is here! The months ahead look absolutely fantastic compared to where we were at this time last year. People are out and getting back to normal as COVID vaccinations reach all who want them. Winery tasting rooms are full and many cities are implementing Social Districts to allow guests to enjoy wine and other beverages containing alcohol outdoors. This is a sea change across our state and will not likely be reversed. It is a welcome change and we encourage all to enjoy responsibly.
Many vineyards in the state have been affected by late frosts in May. While there is not a complete crop loss it appears that the crop will be reduced in some vineyards. That along with the drought we are experiencing could lead to a spectacular vintage for 2021. Time will tell for sure. Bloom is approaching quickly and will determine how crop levels. Given long range weather forecasts, it looks like a great vintage is in our future!
The Judgement of Michigan wine judging plans are coming together for August 3rd at Lake Michigan College. The press release is out and wine entry packets should be in your email. Please contact us if you have not received those materials. This is a new event meant to showcase Michigan wines and put them before wine professionals from our region who can purchase wines for their restaurants, wine shops and stores and tell their customers / followers about them. It is the first event of a new program the MWC is launching to promote Michigan wines in Michigan. Help us spread the word. Enter your wines in the Judgement, have them evaluated and shared.
Enjoy Summer without COVID restrictions!
