Summer 2021 is here!  The months ahead look absolutely fantastic compared to where we were at this time last year. People are out and getting back to normal as COVID vaccinations reach all who want them. Winery tasting rooms are full and many cities are implementing Social Districts to allow guests to enjoy wine and other beverages containing alcohol outdoors.  This is a sea change across our state and will not likely be reversed.  It is a welcome change and we encourage all to enjoy responsibly.
Many vineyards in the state have been affected by late frosts in May. While there is not a complete crop loss it appears that the crop will be reduced in some vineyards. That along with the drought we are experiencing could lead to a spectacular vintage for 2021. Time will tell for sure. Bloom is approaching quickly and will determine how crop levels. Given long range weather forecasts, it looks like a great vintage is in our future!
The Judgement of Michigan wine judging plans are coming together for August 3^rd at Lake Michigan College. The press release is out and wine entry packets should be in your email. Please contact us if you have not received those materials. This is a new event meant to showcase Michigan wines and put them before wine professionals from our region who can purchase wines for their restaurants, wine shops and stores and tell their customers / followers about them. It is the first event of a new program the MWC is launching to promote Michigan wines in Michigan. Help us spread the word. Enter your wines in the Judgement, have them evaluated and shared.
