ISU/UMN Joint Research and Winemaking Webinar Series:
The Research and Winemaking webinar series that started in August 2020 is continuing until December 8th 2020 with more FREE webinars offered to the grape and wine industry members who are using mostly hybrid and climate-adapted grape varieties. The webinars are co-organized and co-hosted by Dr. Aude Watrelot, Assistant Professor of Enology at Iowa State University and Drew Horton, Enology Specialist at the University of Minnesota’s Grape Breeding & Enology Project.
Two upcoming 90-minute webinars are scheduled in November as follows:
Wine Filtration- November 10, 2020
During the 90-minute webinar on November 10th 2020 at 3PM Central Time, Jasha Karazek (Enartis) will present and discuss wine testing and preparation aspects for filtration and Maria Peterson (Scott Laboratories) will present on the practical aspects of filtration equipment and techniques.
• November 10th 2020: Wine filtration
o 30-minute presentation of the practical aspects of the wine preparation for filtration and wine testing by Jasha Karazek from Enartis.
o 30-minute presentation of the practical aspects of the equipment and techniques to filter wines including cross flow, depth, and membrane, by Maria Peterson from Scott laboratories.
o 30-minute Questions and Answers moderated by Dr. Aude Watrelot and Drew Horton.
Barrel maturation- November 24, 2020
During the 90-minute webinar on November 24th 2020 at 3PM Central Time, Joe Lutomske (Enotools) will present on practical aspects of barrel maturation from a use and the selection of barrels to the maintenance of barrels and Aude Watrelot (Iowa State University) will present on research aspects of wine maturation in barrels.

o 30-minute presentation on the research aspects of barrel maturation on wine quality including chemistry and sensory aspects.
